Why the Name?
We chose the name Surgo for our recovery home as it holds deep meaning and symbolism. Water and waves are the fluid interpretation of life's ebbs and flows, embodying the resilience needed to navigate its ups and downs.
Jessie, the owner, has a profound connection to water as a passionate Minnesota wake surfer, and she believes that like a surfer, individuals can rise and stand again, even after facing immense challenges.
The name Surgo was birthed from Jessie's close friend, who has personally experienced the depths of incarceration and addiction and is on his own journey of rising again.
Additionally, in Latin, "surgo" is a surfing term used to describe the act of rising and standing on a surfboard, mirroring the way humans rise above the waves, while acknowledging that waves and tides also rise in their own powerful way.
